See the cute little boy in the Mickey Mouse costume in this post?
Here’s how he dressed for Halloween this year. (Yes, thank goodness, it IS a costume!)
Looking good, Biker Bro!

In honor of Halloween, I posted a poem called “A Horror Story” here, where I explain the circumstances that inspired the piece.
On this blog I thought I’d post a couple more Halloween poems. Happy haunting, everyone!
TRICKS AND TREATS
AT SHORTY’S SALOON
A warped pumpkin face leered
from the ring-marred bar top.
We peered through eye holes
at an electric beer [...]

My mother and I were talking over the weekend about what was my first Halloween costume. She said she thought it was the tiger suit she made for me (see photo above, circa 1958). I said I wondered if it was the Mickey Mouse costume my brother’s wearing in this same photo. I don’t remember actually dressing [...]

Simulated pumpkins have been around for a few years now, but only recently did I realize you can actually carve them. The idea of a “permanent” jack-o-lantern doesn’t really appeal to me, and I adore real pumpkins; so I’ve been pretty lukewarm toward the proliferation of polyester pumpkins (or whatever they’re made out of).
This year, though, I’ve [...]

Except for shopping (especially at the quilt fabric stores) and eating at the good “home cooking” restaurants, Mom and I have never gotten into the “tourist” aspect of Amish country in the Holmes Co., Ohio area. We never toured a recreated Amish homestead, took a buggy ride in the middle of traffic, or went to an [...]

My mother and I just returned from two gorgeous days in Holmes Co., Ohio, also known as Amish Country. The weather was superb (although hot), the fields are still green as opposed to the dry, crinkly grass of drought-ravaged Southwestern Ohio, and bright leaf color is exploding into view.
I haven’t had a chance yet to [...]

As I mentioned in this post yesterday, my nephew, J.Hooligan, has a tendency to name things “Johnny” — such as my new car.
I discovered another example: My sister and the kids put up Halloween decorations last Friday, including three pairs of illuminated eyes that peer maliciously out of the shrubbery along the front porch.
Saturday I [...]

As I mentioned in this post, I got a new car last week. My eight-year-old nephew, J.Hooligan, came along with his mother, Diamondqueen, for the final signing-of-the-papers so he could be the first to take a ride in my new car.
For some reason Diamondqueen told J.Hooligan that getting to be the first rider gave him naming [...]
